For the rookie, the thought of creating your own website can be a daunting and intimidating task. The purpose of this posting is to give you the essential tools needed to start a internet business.

If you are just starting out you need to give yourself about a 2 month learning curve to “acquiring knowledge.” As you gain knowledge your comfort level will increase and by the 3rd month you’ll be an experienced pro.

So, let’s get started.

1. First, invest in a good html editor to create your webpages.

You can use Nvu, and it is free, but if you are just starting out you may find that it is not newbie friendly and does not have some of the “easy” features and benefits of other html editors. However, if you got time to learn and have a good grasp of computers and some html knowledge, then Nvu will work. You can get Nvu by CLICKING HERE.

If you have resources to start your internet business then you will want to seriously think about purchasing either Abobe Dreamweaver or XSite Pro 2 as your editor. The benefit of XSite Pro is that it was created specifically for internet marketers, and thus has added features and benefits. Go to XSite Pro Here.

If your wanting a all-in-one package of website, domain, hosting, and a drag-and-drop style editing of your content, the either Store Stacker or SiteBuildIt is a great choice.

2. Invest In A Good Auto-Responder Service -

The ability to capture people’s names and email addresses and build a list is paramount to long term success as a online marketer. If your online business is about “learning how to play golf,” and your selling a e-book, once you capture their names you can cross sell them other promotional items, for example, Drivers and Clubs and other golfing favorites.

I’ve done a lot of research, and the autoresponder service that has is the best are GetResponse or Aweber. I personally use GetResponse because of the awesome customer support that I have received.

3. Purchase Your Domain Name’s –

The best way to do this is to do a search on potential domain names for the niche that you will be in. The best tool to do this is www.DomainTools.com

After you are done researching a domain name, simply head over to GoDaddy or CheapNames to get your domain name. When you are finished purchasing your domain name, you will want to point your domain name to your hosting account. If you do not know how about doing this, simply call GoDaddy’s excellent customer service to walk you through it.

4. Get Your Hosting Account -

You need to host all your webpages on a hosting account. Once your webpages are uploaded to your hosting account, your website is “live” on the web.

Personally, the best value for the money is HostMonster. Click Here For HostMonster.

5. You’ll Need FREE FTP Software -

FTP stands for File Transer Protocol and is simply a software that enables you to drag and drop your created webpage file that is saved on your hard-drive, and upload that file to your hosting account website files. Once you do that, your site is “live.”

Optional, but highly recommended:

5. Webcam With Microphone -

If you want to get really professional you can use a digital camcorder, but this is not necessary. A Logitech webcam works just fine. If you just want to record your voice to send to podcast websites, Audacity is a great free tool.

You can use your webcam to record your product review and blast it out to Video sites either manually or using Traffic Geyser or TubeMogul. Tube Mogul is free and distributes your video to a dozen sites, while Traffic Geyser will blast your video to over 30 video sites, 20 podcast sights, and also 20 bookmarking sites like Technorati, etc….

Tube Mastery offers a FREE REPORT on how to do video product reviews.

6. Screen Capture Video Software -

To enhance your ability to advertise, using web 2.0 video sites is a great way to get free traffic. Doing a product review with screen capture software and then blasting it out to video sites using Traffic Geyser or Tube Mogul is a great way to get traffic.

There are a few screen capture softwares available. Camstudio Pro is great and does the job and is under $30. If you do a lot of screen capture videos and wanting more enhanced features, Camtasia Studio 5 by Techsmith is the way to go. It has a 30 day free trial but comes with a $299 price point.

7. Virtual Assistant Software -

This is not essential but it sure is nice. This software will lead to a much higher conversion rate. You can offer a discount, or even put your autoresponder form inside of it to capture emails too. Visit one of my sites and try exiting the page by clicking here. You will see a virtual assistant in action.

The best virtual assistant software is Virtual Smart Agent (VSA) by Dave Guindon. There are other packages but these all come with a monthly fee. What I like about Virtual Smart Agent is that is it a one time cost, and Dave Guindon offers a Lifetime Money Back Guarantee. That is how confident he is that it will increase business for you.

These are the essential tools to get your website off the ground, and some extra tools you’ll need to be a online marketer.

In my next posting I will talk about using blogging platform using Wordpress to create your sites (as opposed to static html sites), and the essential tools and plugins needed to make your blog explode.
