This brings us to our fifth lesson in driving traffic to your website:

5. Ezine Marketing

What is an Ezine? An ezine is an “electronic magazine” which is sent to people who subscribe for it via email.

One of the most highly effective and under used forms of marketing might be Ezine marketing.

Ezine marketing is when you find a publisher of a large Ezine, who sends out their Ezine to their readers at least 1 or two times per month.

You take an ad out in this Ezine, and when all the readers get the Ezine it will drive very targeted traffic back to your site.

You can choose one of these four ezine adverting types: classified ads, sponsor ads, solo ads and banner ads.

  • A Classified Ad is three to five lines of text with 60-65 characters placed within the ezine.
  • A Sponsored Ad usually appears at the top of the ezine and are seen by readers upon opening the ezine. They cost more than classified ads but are more effective.
  • The Solo Ad is an email sent out by the ezine publisher to their entire mailing list offering only your ad. Solo ads are published separately from the ezine schedule. Your email ad will be the only thing the entire database receives in that mailing. Your solo ad is your sales letter to the ezine list and the key is to write a compelling reason for the reader to click on your link.
  • Banner Ads are placed by some publishers at the top or middle of the email of the publishers.

The trick is to make sure you are placing an ad in very targeted ezines. You want to focus on ezines that already have network marketers reading them, or people interested in home based businesses, or whatever your niche business is.

My suggestion is to only place a SOLO ad when you utilize Ezine marketing. As discussed, there are different types of ads you can place. Some ezines have multiple ads in them and you can get top, middle, or bottom positions.

You want to make sure you run ads that are SOLO, meaning no other ads will be run in that Ezine. Those ads will produce the most return on investment.

The #1 reason ezine advertising works so well is that ezines are a HIGHLY TARGETED form of advertising.

With ezines, you can KNOW that the reader is interested in your type of product before you place the ad, because ezines are about very specific topics.

  • People who read golf ezines ARE interested in golf and will buy golf related products.
  • People who want to invest in real estate read investment real estate ezines and ARE interested in and will buy investment and real estate related products and services.
  • People who love dogs read ezines about dogs and ARE interested in and will buy dog related products.
  • People who want to be healthy read diet, exercise, nutrition (and more) ezines are ARE interested in and will buy health products like vitamins, supplements, recipes, and more.
  • People who want to make money on the Internet read ezines about Internet marketing, business opportunities and working at home and ARE interested in and will buy copywriting, autoresponders, business opportunities, advertising, and more!

Here is what I recommend. Start with 1 ad. Find a magazine and test 1 solo ad and see how it does. If it does well, keep it and try other magazines as well.

Eventually you can have an army of Ezine ads going out all the time driving traffic back to your sites.

Just remember to test everything you do so you don’t waste money on things which aren’t working.
