Let us move on to the second key and method to driving traffic to your website.

2. Search Engine Optimization – Organic Search Results

This strategy involves creating a website that gets you very high rankings in the search engines. This strategy is a bit more long term, as it will take months before you see any results what so ever.

SEO Book.com offers a great resource with many online tools, both free and a upgrade version. When building your site keep in mind what the search engines are looking for when they rate a site and determine where it will be in their listings.

  • Quality of content and keyword density. This is how many times the keyword a person searched for shows up in the content on your website.

  • Whether or not your keywords are in ALT tags, or META tags, which are little places you put keywords in the code of the website. If you hire someone at Elance to build this they will know what I’m talking about, or if you use SiteBuildIt! they walk you through the whole process. XsitePro 2 is the best website developer software if you do it yourself.
  • Number of 1 way inbound links you have coming back to your website. By having lots of 1 way links coming to your site that basically tells the search engines that your site is important. It says, all these other people link to my site because they think it’s important. And thus your page rank will increase.
  • New, unique, and fresh content on a consistent basis. If you are always adding new content the search engines will know that they can keep coming back to you to get relevant content for their searchers. It makes a big difference when boosting your SEO ranking.

Before you build your site research the keywords that you are building it to be optimized for.

Make sure there is not TOO much competition. You don’t want to enter a market where there are hugely established sites with thousands of pages of content that are 5 years old with 19,000 1 way links coming to them.

That is not where you want to be. Find a market you can dominate, where there doesn’t appear to be many or any sites built to be optimized for those keywords.

Make sure it has some decent traffic, and then start building. Make sure you have other elements I talked about earlier….Calls to action. Places to capture subscribers and build your email list. All that stuff.

If you do that, you will make good use of the work you put in to get your site ranked in the search engines. Search engines are free traffic…and potentially LOTS of it.
