The launch of a new blog is daunting, namely because the chances are your blog only has one loyal reader - YOU! You check your stats a few days later and you only have a few hits, and that’s after you signed up for MyBlogLog and BlogRush. As a new blogger, what can you do to get an abundance of readers to your blog?

Below are the top 10 tips specifically for new bloggers and it is helpful to work on each one at a time to help you create momentum.

10. Write at least five major “foundational” or “pillar” postings of about 500 words each. This posting should be instructional and offers real value to your readers. Your aim here is to give really good and practical advice. Because this is a foundational posting, the article should not be time sensitive. Nor should you attempt to sell anything. It should be strickly instructional with really great advice.

The more pillar postings you have on your blog the better.

9. You should write one new blog post per day minimum. The key here is to show to first time visitors that your webste is up-to-date so that they look forward to coming back tomorrow to find something new. Also, put RSS feed button’s on your blog to make the reading of your blog easy for your visitors. While you can slow down after you get a lot of readers, it is crucial when your blog is new to produce fresh and daily content as you gain your loyal readers.

8. Use a keyword relevant domain name. What you call your blog must be relevant to the purpose of your blog. And, make the domain name easily rememberable so that people can easily spread the word. Hence, using a .com is easier to remember than a .net, and the smaller the domain name the better, or the use of a catchy phrase.

7. Comment on other blogs. After you have set up your foundational postings are your adding daily and relevant content, start visiting other blogs that are the same niche as yours, and offer fresh comments. This is the best way to find the right type of person to visit and read your blog. A great and FREE software that helps you find “do follow” blogs where you can leave your link is “Real Link Finder at http://www.reallinkfinder.com/.

When people read your good comments on other blogs, they will be interested in finding more about you and will visit your blog.

6. Trackback to other blogs in your blog posts. When you write a new post to your blog and it makes reference to another article of someone else’s blog, you can do a trackback. What this does is leave a truncated summary of your blog post on their blog entry - it’’s a little like your blog telling someone else’’s blog that you wrote an article mentioning them.

This is a great tip because just like a comment, a trackback leaves a link from another blog back to yours for readers to follow. It also does something else that is very important - it gets the attention of the other blogger. If your like me, when someone writes a comment on my blog, I eagerly look to find out what someone has written about me. When I do, I notice their link, I click the link, and if I enjoy their blog and see it as relevant, I’ll bookmark it, subscribe to it, take a tour of their blog, etc. In essence, I have become their new reader.

5. Publicize and encourage readers to make comments on your blog. Having evidence that there are active readers to your blog is a powerful testimony to getting others readers. It shows that they are not the only one who is interested in your blog and in what you write. The best way to encourage comments is to simply pose a question in a blog post. Make sure you respond to comments so that it is conversational.

4. Submit your foundational or pillar postings to a blog carnival. Often many other blogs link back to a blog carnival host, and the people that have articles that are featured on the blog carnivals usually enjoy a spike in visitors. If you want to find the right blog carnival for your blog, do a search at http://blogcarnival.com/.

3. Submit your blog to blogtopsites.com. After you copy and paste a couple of lines of code to your site, just sit back and enjoy the increase in traffic, usually about 1-10 hits per day. This is not a lot, but over time you start to get higher rankings with them and more visitors.

2. Submit your postings to GoArticles.com and EzineArticles.com. Not only do you get great seo linking by doing this, but you also get more visitors to your blog. It is very important to put a link to your blog at the end of the article in the “Resource Box” when you submit to these two sites. It is free to do this and you quickly are seen as a Expert Author.

Also, other people who have websites, blogs, and newsletters, will borrow your article from these two sites, including your link, and will add it to their own sites and blogs for content.

1. Keep adding foundational or pillar articles. Steps 10 thru 9 will help you only when you have your foundational articles in place that offers high value and sound advice. This will keep your readers coming back. My advice to try and do one foundational or pillar article every week.

One other thing I would recommend is that poeple do visit forums and post responses to questions. Ofcourse one should post to a similar forum to ones blog so that the curious surfer will visit your website.
